Montana Gambling Revenue Up5 August 2003MONTANA – As reported by the Associated Press: “Although state revenues were down, Montana's gambling tax revenues increased 5.8 percent over the past year. “In fiscal 2003, the state collected $46.1 million in taxes for the state, county and city governments, according to statistics released Monday by the Gambling Control Division. “This past spring legislators trimmed state spending to make up for a $235 million biennial revenue shortfall, the result of declining income and property tax revenues. “That compares with $43.6 million in 2002 and $41.6 million the year before. “…As casino owners bought new machines, [Rick Ask, bureau chief of the Gambling Control Division] said, they also increased gambling promotions to make wagering more attractive. “…He also said he doubted that the gambling industry in Montana is inversely related to the economy…” |
