Mohegan Tribe Invests in Wisconsin Casino

MOHEGAN, Connecticut – As reported by the Norwich Bulletin: "After hitting it big with the Mohegan Sun, the Mohegan Tribe is taking a chance with another casino.

"The tribe has invested in a gaming and entertainment facility planned by the Kenosha, Wis.-based Menominee tribe, and will sit on the board overseeing its development.

"It is the first time the Mohegans have agreed to help finance an outside gaming facility. The Mohegans are still paying off a $1-billion debt for the Project Sunburst expansion at Mohegan Sun, but tribal chairman Mark Brown said the Wisconsin project will allow the tribe to diversify.

"…The Mohegans' have committed about $1 million so far. The loan goes to the Menominees' development company, Kenosha Gaming Development LLC; Brown sits on the company board.

"…The Menominees' casino, though, would be on an interstate highway within two-hour drives of Chicago, Milwaukee and Madison, Wisconsin…"
