Michigan casino bets on Indiana players

MICHIGAN -- As reported by the Indiana Post-Tribune: "When Four Winds Casino and Resort opens its doors in New Buffalo, Mich., Aug. 2, gamblers and employees from Indiana are expected to make up a large part of the crowd.

"The land-based Indian casino already has hired 2,200 of the 2,400 employees it requires -- just a fraction of the 16,000 who applied -- many of whom have experience at the casino boats in Joliet and northwest Indiana.

"...Matt Harkness, general manager of the Pokagon Band's Four Winds casino, promises a clear departure from the bright, flashy Vegas-inspired decor local gamblers might expect.

"Visitors to Four Winds -- just off Interstate 94 across the Michigan line, about 75 minutes from Tinley Park -- will be greeted by wood, logs and granite touches, said Harkness, who described Four Winds as a 'natural product' casino.

"...Once they reach the casino, gamblers will enter a 2,000-spot garage and lodge building. An elevator leads guests directly onto the property, which includes 3,000 slot machines, 85 table games and 19 poker tables in a separate poker room..."
