MGM Mirage Chooses Quova for New Online Gaming Venture

9 September 2002

MOUNTAIN VIEW, California – (Press Release) -- Quova, Inc., the world's leading provider and developer of Web geography services and technologies, announced today that MGM Mirage Online Isle of Man, Ltd., the new online casino venture of MGM Mirage, has selected Quova's GeoPoint service to provide geolocation and IP mapping services that will assure regulatory and jurisdictional compliance. MGM Mirage is one of two Isle of Man-based online casino operations that have chosen Quova solutions to protect against inadvertently servicing customers in areas where such gaming is not legal -- a significant regulatory violation that can undermine the integrity of the operation.

"We looked at all of the available options, and we have made Quova's GeoPoint our IP mapping service and technology of choice," said Bill Hornbuckle, President and COO of MGM Mirage Online Isle of Man, Ltd. "We see Quova as one of the enabling technologies necessary to provide the highest level of jurisdictional compliance for our online operations."

MGM Mirage and the other Quova customers in the online gaming industry have agreed to participate in Quova's closed-loop methodology, which will enable Quova to aggregate usage data across the entire online gaming community for further automated and hand-mapping analysis. MGM Mirage will benefit from Quova's increased data accuracy and vastly expanded data coverage for the industry.

"We are enormously gratified that MGM Mirage has chosen Quova for a business-critical function in such a high-risk market," said Quova President and CEO Marie Alexander. "We consider it a powerful endorsement of our approach to providing geolocation information -- we combine a worldwide data gathering network, leveraging algorithms that automatically generate IP-specific data, with a state-of-the-art hand-mapping capability which aggregates IP usage information across all of our online gaming customers and provides the widest and most accurate coverage data in the industry."

MGM Mirage and Quova were brought together by WagerWorks, Inc., a Quova development partner providing the software platform for the MGM MIRAGE online casino.

"MGM Mirage asked us to provide a compliance engine, which verifies the age and location of every web visitor attempting to register at the site," said Paul Mathews, Vice President of Government Affairs for WagerWorks, Inc. "Our due diligence told us that Quova was clearly the best choice to provide the location component of that compliance engine, and MGM Mirage quickly came to the same conclusion."
