Mega Millions Breaks $100 Million Mark

26 August 2002

ILLINOIS – (Press Release) -- Everything is growing in Mega Millions: the number of winners, the jackpot, the excitement, and in just 12 days, the number of states where people can play Mega Millions. More than 540,000 tickets were winners in last night's drawing. But since none of them matched all six numbers to win the $90 million jackpot, that jackpot grows to an estimated $105 million for Tuesday night's drawing.

Last night's winning numbers were 05-19-20-45-48 and The Mega Ball was 44. Eight tickets matched the first five numbers and only missed the Gold Mega Ball number to win $175,000. Four of those tickets were sold in New York, two in Illinois, and one each in Maryland and Virginia.

This all comes as mega-excitement is spreading to the West Coast. Players in Washington are preparing to join the fun beginning September 4. Washington will join the nine current Mega Millions states: Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Ohio and Virginia.

Mega Millions drawings are held Tuesday and Friday nights at 11:00 PM eastern time, 10:00 PM central time and 8:00 PM pacific time.
