MDI Announces Comprehensive Internet Strategy27 November 2000HARTFORD, Connecticut -- (Press Release) -- Nov. 27, 2000 -- MDI Entertainment, Inc. (NASDAQ SC: LTRY) today announced that it has begun marketing its comprehensive Internet Platform Options (``IPO's'') to its North American Lottery customers. These Internet platforms, tied to most of MDI's 30+ lottery exclusive entertainment brands, cultural icons and personalities will provide lotteries and their players a variety of functionalities to add value to MDI's licensed lottery games. Among the functionalities the IPOs afford lotteries and their players is the ability to enter second-chance drawings electronically rather than through the mail, a third-chance licensed game, facts and trivia about the licensed brand, links to the brand's official website and a variety of e-commerce opportunities that will allow players to use non-winning tickets for discounts off the purchase of branded merchandise. MDI President and CEO Steven M. Saferin stated, ``Today's announcement puts MDI at the forefront of enabling lotteries to make use of the Internet for a variety of purposes. Our branded games regularly attract hundreds of thousands of entries into a series of second-chance drawings for merchandise prizes. Lotteries who utilize these IPOs will offer their players the chance to register for these drawings electronically rather than having to purchase a 33(cent), soon to be a 34(cent) stamp and an envelope. And that registration process will enable the lottery, subject to the player's permission, to establish a one-to-one marketing relationship with their player.'' Saferin continued, ``These IPOs will be integrated into each lottery's website and will add significant value to the players overall experience with MDI's licensed games. Once arriving at the Internet Platform for the licensed game, the players will have a variety of options in addition to registering for the second-chance drawings.'' ``Among the additional functionalities of the IPOs,'' Saferin continued, ``is a third-chance game for additional prizes. The players will also be able to access an incredible amount of information about these brands and link directly to each brand's official website. In addition to these value-added services for players and lotteries, MDI will create a variety of e-commerce revenue generating opportunities by either directly offering branded merchandise for sale to players or linking to sites that offer such merchandise and receiving a commission for doing so.'' ``While these IPOs will be fun and convenient for players, it is critical that MDI has a legitimate revenue generating business model as part and parcel of this initiative,'' Saferin stressed. ``Far too many Internet strategies do not incorporate solid revenue generating opportunities. Ours does. We are going to offer branded merchandise to the hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of customers who have already purchased a lottery ticket for the brand and expressed an interest in branded merchandise related to the property by registering for the second-chance drawings to win merchandise." ``Now we will give these players a chance to monetize their non-winning tickets by using them for discounts off the purchase of dozens of items of merchandise related to their favorite brands. We are very excited about the opportunity and the benefits it brings to our lottery customers, their players and our company and shareholders. We hope to announce the first implementation of these Internet Platforms in the very near future.'' |
