Mayor Guiliani Supports Casino Proposal In New York6 September 2000NEW YORK –Sept. 6, 2000—As reported by the New York Daily News: "…Pataki and Giuliani commented separately on Trump's vow to `vigorously' pursue bringing an Indian-run casino to Manhattan if the state lets the St. Regis Mohawks build a casino in the Catskills. "…Pataki rebuffed Trump's idea by telling reporters in Albany, `Our priority is to have casinos in historic resort areas where we need to attract tourism dollars, particularly the Catskills and the Niagara frontier.' "Without siding with Trump, Giuliani said the city shouldn't be excluded from having casinos if they are built elsewhere in the state. "…Giuliani said his support of a casino operation in the city would be contingent on creating a strong supervisory commission to keep organized crime out and ensuring that the city would get economic benefits from the gambling.
