Man Pleads Guilty in Betting Case26 August 2003IOWA -- As reported by the Des Moines Register: ``A Minnesota man Monday became the sixth person to plead guilty as part of an investigation involving alleged bookmaker Robert Derryberry of Norwalk. ``John R. Sather, 55, of Round Rock, Minn., had been charged with illegal wagering, a felony. He pleaded guilty of a misdemeanor and was put on probation. ``If Sather completes his one-year probation, the conviction will be erased from his record. He will not be required to testify against Derryberry, 60, who allegedly ran a multistate gambling operation from his home, which was raided earlier this year by state agents. ``…Warren County Attorney Gary Kendell said snaring bettors is how authorities intended to amass evidence against Derryberry. ``Nearly two dozen others, including Jim Rasmussen, who later resigned as the chairman of the Racing Association of Central Iowa, were not charged because they agreed to testify against Derryberry…" |
