Man Admits Tax Fraud: Ran Illegal Gambling Operation

BOSTON – As reported by the Daily News Tribune: ``A Dedham man is facing up to five years in federal prison after he pleaded guilty this week to hiding close to $162,000 in earnings from an illegal gambling operation from the U.S. Internal Revenue Service.

``George A. Chute, 52, of 4 Cobb Lane, admitted to lying repeatedly on his federal tax returns between 1996 and 1998, according to a press release issued yesterday by the office of U.S. Attorney Michael J. Sullivan.

``...Chute came under fire after IRS officials and state police caught onto his scheme to report false earnings from an illegal gambling operation he ran for Donald Willis in Waltham.

``While working for Willis, Chute would broker bets and wagers with his boss's brother, Paul Willis of New Jersey.

``Much of Chute's earnings from that illegal gambling scheme was never recorded on his federal tax returns, the press release said.

``…Chute pleaded guilty to three counts of filing a false tax return and one count of interstate transmission of wagering information, officials said…”
