Major League Bruise: Will There Be Another MLB Power Hitter Suspended for Steroids?

(PRESS RELEASE) -- Bodog.com released odds today on whether a Major League Baseball player with 200 or more career home runs would be suspended for steroid use before the end of the season.

"It is big news when you hear about a player with 3,000 career hits testing positive for performance-enhancing drugs," said Calvin Ayre, Founder and CEO of Bodog.com. "But not entirely surprising, especially in light of Major League Baseball's commitment to revamping its drug-testing policy."

Ayre was referring to Baltimore Orioles slugger Rafael Palmeiro, who recently tested positive for the powerful steroid Stanozolol.

"The question on everyone's mind is: Who is next?" Ayre said.

Palmeiro, a Hall of Fame candidate, is the highest-profile baseball player to fail a test for performance-enhancing drugs. Last Monday, he was handed a 10-game suspension for violating baseball's doping policy.

In addition to that humiliation, Palmeiro could be facing a congressional perjury probe for lying under oath. Earlier this year, he joined Mark McGwire, Sammy Sosa and a host of other top baseball players in an appearance before a U.S. congressional committee that investigated the rampant use of steroids in professional sports. Congress will have to determine whether the first baseman committed perjury when he vehemently testified that he never had used steroids.

Will another MLB player with 200 or more career home runs be suspended for steroid use before the end of the season? Bodog's bookmakers are suggesting odds that this will happen at –200.
