Magna Applies for Account Wagering License in California10 January 2002CALIFORNIA –– As reported by the Thoroughbred Times: "Magna Entertainment Corp. has filed an application with the California Horse Racing Board (CHRB) for a license to conduct account wagering in the state. "Magna officials have said their system would be ready to begin operation immediately if it is approved during the CHRB's meeting on January 24. "…Magna recently spent $40-million to acquire the Call-A-Bet account wagering system from Ladbrokes. Based in Pennsylvania, the hub would be able to begin accepting wagers from California residents immediately, either over telephone lines or through the Internet. "Magna, which owns Santa Anita Park and Golden Gate and leases and operates Bay Meadows Race Course in California, still is working on providing television coverage of races from its tracks as negotiations for a `reciprocal rights' deal with Television Games Network fell through after 11 months…" |
