Louisiana Casinos Rebound from Slowdown19 December 2001BATON ROUGE, Louisiana -- As reported by the Associated Press: ``Louisiana's state-licensed casinos began to rebound in November as winnings from gamblers increased nearly 7 percent from October and 16 percent from the same period last year. ``The industry's earnings had fallen off in October primarily due to tourism drops after the Sept. 11 terrorism. ``The state's 14 riverboat casinos won $132.7 million last month, up 7.3 percent from October's winnings of $123.7 million and 17.5 percent from its winnings during the same month a year earlier, the state police told the Louisiana Gaming Control Board on Tuesday. ``...The total take for the state-licensed casinos was $153.4 million, up from October's tally of $144 million ``Most of the increase was in the Shreveport/Bossier market..." |
