Louisiana Casino Revenue Falls in January

NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana – As reported by the Associated Press: "Winnings from gamblers at Louisiana's state-licensed casinos dropped by 4.5 percent from December to January as the Lake Charles market, which saw another competitor enter the fray last week, saw the sharpest decline.

"The 14 riverboat casinos and Harrah's New Orleans Casino won $149.7 million in January, down from $157 million in December, state police reported Tuesday.

"The dockside casinos won $127.8 million in January, compared with $136.2 million in December. Harrah's New Orleans bucked the trend, winning $21.9 million in January, compared with $20.8 million in December.

"Of the four casino markets, the pair of two-boat complexes in Lake Charles took the biggest month-to-month hit, seeing revenue drop 17 percent from $32.9 million in December to $27.3 million in January…"
