Lotto Winners Help Fire Station19 November 2002EL PASO -- As reported by the El Paso Times: ``One of El Paso's newest millionaires gave a $1,000 donation to an East Side fire station Monday. ```We think (firefighters) do a good job and are underpaid,' said Gerald Fernandes, husband of Texas Lotto winner Mai Fernandes, who hit a $6 million jackpot in September at an East Side gas station. ``The gift to Fire Station No. 25, 10834 Ivanhoe, was one of several donations from various sources to the Fire Department unanimously approved Monday by a City Council that was missing three members. ``…The Fire Department donations approved Monday will go to "buy items the city doesn't normally provide, like a television set" for fire stations, Assistant Fire Chief Michael Widtfeldt said…" |
