Lottery-Related Game Show Under Investigation

PHOENIX, Arizona – As reported by the Associated Press: "The Department of Public Safety is investigating allegations of fraud surrounding a game show in which the Arizona Lottery was once involved.

"Investigators don't think that Lottery staff had a part in the fraud, DPS spokesman Frank Valenzuela said. The probe was started in September at the Arizona Lottery's request.

"Lottery officials said they had concerns about the way contestants were chosen for the game show.

"The probe involves a show called `Powerball -- The Game Show,' which last aired Sept. 28 in Arizona. Lottery officials said the show is unrelated to the popular multistate Powerball game.

"In the game, players sent qualifying scratcher tickets to the lottery for a chance to be drawn to appear on a weekly, 30-minute show taped in Hollywood that featured players from 12 to 15 states.

"…Arizona Lottery officials said they pulled out of the game show before the probe began, due to poor sales of the scratcher tickets…"
