Loto-Quebec Offers an Instant CD-ROM Lottery

6 March 2000

Ingenio, Loto-Quebec's research and development subsidiary, has announced the release of ``Tresors de la Tour,'' an instant CD-ROM lottery. The new multimedia game is available through Loto-Quebec's regular retail network.

This new breed of instant lotteries combines gaming with home entertainment, the lottery said. It called the game user friendly "with a dose of humor."

Consumers buy a starter kit that includes three instant lottery tickets and the CD-ROM. The game comes with a parental control device.

When players insert the CD-ROM in their computer, an image appears that requests an access code. They get the code by scratching one of the three instant tickets.

That code determines how the game plays out and whether the ticket is a winner. Players can win free tickets and cash prizes up to $25,000.

Loto-Quebec, which is based in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, said Ingenio has two licensing agreements for the use of "Tresors de la Tour" by the Swiss and Belgian lotteries. Ingenio predicts combined additional sales for these European lotteries of more than $21 million, which would provide Ingenio with a net profit of nearly $1 million.
