Le Gustaria Ser Millionario?

17 April 2000

SAN CARLOS, Calif., April 17 (Press Release) - Millionaire mania aside, Trancos believes the market opportunity for its TroppoLotto (http://www.troppolotto.com) en Espanol online lottery sweepstakes is "muy grande."

Trancos is targeting the rapidly growing Hispanic marketplace with TroppoLotto. The first and only, easy-to-play, free multilingual on-line lottery sweepstakes is currently available in Spanish, French and English.

TroppoLotto is targeting the burgeoning number of Spanish-speaking Internet users in the United States. Trancos' commitment to the Hispanic marketplace is seen in its name, a Spanish word for "a leap forward". Launched only in February 2000, TroppoLotto is one of the fastest-growing online lottery sweepstakes.

PC Data, the leader in software and hardware tracking, recently ranked TroppoLotto as the #193 most frequently visited Website, with more than 26 million page views, for the week of April 3, 2000.TroppoLotto en Espanol is also receiving an overwhelmingly enthusiastic response from the Hispanic Internet community.

"TroppoLotto is fun and entertaining and the chance to win money is very exciting!" said Angela Guevara, TroppoLotto en Espanol player from Boerne, Texas. "It is wonderful to have greater opportunities to win with TroppoLotto, and to be able to play in my native language is especially great."

"We realized early on the enormous potential of the Hispanic market, both here in the United States and in Latin America," said Brian Nelson, founder and CEO of Trancos (http://www.trancos.com), the parent site of TroppoLotto that offers a virtual island entertainment destination on the Web. "We certainly expect TroppoLotto en Espanol to continue attracting players as rapidly as the English version has."

Leading market research firms point to the Hispanic-Latino population as the fastest growing population in the United States. By the year 2000, the total Hispanic population should reach 40 million and, by the year 2040, the Hispanic population is projected to be 25% of the total U.S. population. More and more Hispanics are also embracing the Web, and this trend is expected to continue with estimates that there will be 19.1 million Latin American Internet users in the U.S. by the year 2003.

Cultural Differences Key Addressing cultural differences is key to reaching this under served market, explains Adela Gildo-Mazzon, director of marketing communications and programs for Trancos who is heading up the firm's multilingual expansion efforts. Gildo-Mazzon added that the Hispanic Internet population is a largely under served market, and those Web sites that do target Spanish-speaking Internet users typically take a "one-size-fits-all" approach. "We are just seeing the tip of the iceberg in terms of the possibilities in marketing to the Hispanic community," said Gildo-Mazzon. "While providing content and services in our native language is certainly a first step, Websites must go beyond simple language translation to take into account our cultural needs and differences. Not only are the number of Hispanic Internet users steadily increasing, but this is a demographic group that is extremely brand loyal and has a strong affinity for games of chance, such as lottery sweepstakes."

Gildo-Mazzon explains that recognizing major Hispanic cultural differences and customs is key, especially as Trancos embarks on its major expansion to introduce Trancos and TroppoLotto worldwide to other Spanish-speaking Internet users. According to Gildo-Mazzon, the company plans to launch a Spanish version of Trancos in the U.S. shortly as well as aggressive Latin American expansion for TroppoLotto in the countries of Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Mexico and Venezuela.

"While TroppoLotto en Espanol in the United States features a neutral Spanish-language translation version, TroppoLotto in Mexico will include a Mexican slant to the language and Latin America translations will be customized for each country," added Gildo-Mazzon. "In addition, in Mexico and all through Latin America, where bandwidth is an issue, the site will have fewer graphics for easier download and viewing."

"Localization is absolutely key for Web sites catering to Latin America," said Annika Alford, program manager, Internet & Communications Latin America Research for IDC Research. "And in Brazil, user habits are very pronounced and content must be localized just for the Portuguese speakers of that country. Web sites that recognize and address the specialized needs of Latin America will certainly be ahead of the competition."

Playing TroppoLotto Unlike other online lottery sweepstakes that require a lengthy start-up process or tie lottery entries into site usage, TroppoLotto features an easy-to-play game board that allows visitors to begin playing immediately and then register. Players simply select or "quick pick" 7 numbers from the game board and click on one of TroppoLotto's Hispanic sponsorship advertisements, Zona Financiera, eHola or Media Ring, to register their entries. Players may play three times daily, 365 days a year. With a daily drawing that offers a grand prize of up to $1,000.000, TroppoLotto offers more chances to win real money as winners are awarded cash prizes rather than gift certificates or merchandise.

TroppoLotto offers more chances to win than other online lottery sweepstakes by offering higher rewards for correctly selecting 4, 5, or 6 out of 7 winning numbers.
