Lawsuit Alleges Casino Age Bias27 July 2000DENVER, COLORADO -- July 27, 2000 – As reported by the Denver Post: "Ladbroke, the British owners of two Black Hawk casinos, is accused in a lawsuit filed in federal court in Denver of using age rather than job performance or employee skills to decide who should be laid off in a Bullwhackers Casino staff reduction last year. "…In making the decisions on layoffs, the lawsuit states, "Bullwhackers entrusted the decisions regarding which employees would lose their jobs ... (to) a Ladbroke human-resources representative from London, England, a division president from Pittsburgh, Pa.; and an in-house attorney from Richmond, Calif." "Bullwhackers' department managers were not consulted about which employees were most nonessential and, therefore, most appropriate for layoff, according to the lawsuit. "According to the lawsuit, 19 of the 25 people terminated were over the age of 40. The average age was 51..." |
