Las Vegas Sports Consultants Releases the First Line on Super Bowl XXXVI

28 January 2002

LAS VEGAS –(Press Release) -- Jan. 27, 2002 -- As the final seconds ticked off the clock during the NFC Championship game, Las Vegas Sports Consultants Senior Oddsmaker Cesar Robaina had already decided the opening number for the Super Bowl.

The St. Louis Rams opened as 16-point favorites over the New England Patriots with the total set at 53 points.

``The idea is to make a price that will divide the betting action equally,'' stated Robaina. ``We believe the general public will jump on the high-scoring Rams, so we thought 16 would be a good starting point.''

``We opened the total at 53 because even though New England proved its defense was more than adequate by allowing the Steelers just 17 points, there is a big difference between Pittsburgh's Kordell Stewart and St. Louis' Kurt Warner.''

The Super Bowl garners the most betting action of any single event during the year. According to the Gaming Control Board, in 1991 there was approximately $40 million bet legally in the state of Nevada on the Super Bowl. This figure rose to over $67 million by 2001, a 69% increase. Unlike the regular season, the Super Bowl attracts more money from the novice bettor.

LVSC is the world's most respected authority because of its available comprehensive collection of sports gaming resources.
