Las Vegas Sports Consultants Picks Duke As Favorite

13 March 2002

LAS VEGAS –(Press Release) -- Las Vegas Sports Consultants, the world's most respected odds authority, released the first lines for the first round of the 2002 men's college basketball tournament. The lines were released when the Tournament Selection Committee finished seeding the field of 65 teams that will compete for the championship.

Duke opens defense of its national championship this week and Las Vegas Sports Consultants has tabbed Duke as 3/2 favorites to repeat. This marks the second year in a row that LVSC has installed Duke as the favorite to win the Big Dance.

``While we certainly agree that there are other teams that can win the title, Duke is the team that will draw the most betting action,'' said Cesar Robaina, LVSC's senior oddsmaker. ``That's why we have Duke as the favorite.''

Kansas (5/2), Maryland (3/1) and Oklahoma (7/1) will also generate significant interest in Las Vegas, said Robaina. For those fans that like to play long shots, this field has a few that stand out. LVSC opened Connecticut at 18/1 and Gonzaga at 30/1.

LVSC makes the official odds for almost every American sporting activity and some foreign sports as well. The LVSC line is distributed to the largest and most successful sports books in Nevada, and remains the industry standard for opening lines across the world.

A complete listing of futures for each team is listed below.
