Lac Du Flambeau Puts Off Wisconsin Casino Plan

KAUKAUNA, Wisconsin – Nov. 16, 2000 – As reported by the Associated Press: "An Indian tribe has put plans for a casino complex on the back burner while it pursues another site in Lafayette County.

"The Lac du Flambeau Band of Chippewa are concentrating all their efforts on getting state and federal approval for a casino in Shullsburg in Lafayette County, tribal spokesman Richard Matty said.

"…The Shullsburg proposal includes an 18-hole golf course along with the casino, hotel, convention center and water park on nearly 400 acres of land, mayor Dan Morrissey said.

"…The Shullsburg approval process is expected to take six to nine months, Matty said.

"That leaves Kaukauna out in the cold, at least for the winter…"
