Kentucky Bingo Figures Down28 July 2003KENTUCKY – As reported by the (Ashland, Kentucky) Daily Independent: Receipts from charitable gaming in Boyd and Greenup counties were down in 2002 from the previous year, according to state figures released earlier this month. “However, annual county-by-county reports filed with the state Department of Charitable Gaming also show that local non-profit organizations that benefit from bingo, raffles and other games of chance retained more of the money wagered on those games last year than they did in 2001. “Boyd County's 2002 handle — money taken at the door before payouts and other expenses — was $30.9 million, compared to $32.7 million the previous year. “…Greenup's handle last year was $5.7 million, compared with $5.6 million the year before. “…After payouts and expenses, the organizations that benefit from games held in Boyd County retained $2.2 million in 2002, compared with $1.8 million the previous year. Greenup County charities retained $440,541 wagered on games of chance last year, up from $345,880 in 2001. “…Statewide, the $608 million handle reported for 2002 was the highest since the state began requiring charities to report earnings from games of chance nine years ago. “However, that total represented an increase of only $962,334 from the previous year — a stark contrast from the $20 million-a-year rate at which receipts had been growing since 1998. “After expenses, charities received $50.7 million of the statewide handle, a $2.5 million increase from 2001…” |
