Judah Scores Fourth-Round TKO Over Millett

6 August 2000

UNCASVILLE, Conneticut--(Press Release)--Aug. 6, 2000--International Boxing Federation (IBF) Junior Welterweight Champion Zab Judah retained the title with a fourth-round TKO victory over former IBF junior welterweight champion Terronn Millett.

On the undercard, North American Boxing Federation (NABF) Champion Juan Lazcano won a split decision victory over former WBC super featherweight champion ``Jesse'' James Leija. The fight card, promoted by Main Events was shown live on SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING on Saturday, August 5, 2000 from Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncasville, Connecticut.

Judah (24-0, 1 NC, 18 KOs), of Brooklyn, New York, rallied from a flash knockdown in the first round to claim the IBF junior welterweight crown over former champion Millett (22-2-1, 17 KOs), of St. Louis, Missouri.

Judah knocked Millett down in the fourth round. Millett got off the canvas and later threw a wild punch that put him off balance causing him to hit the canvas for a second time. Millett got up to face referee Michael Ortega of Hamden Connecticut, but after looking into the fighter's eyes, Ortega decided to wave the fight off.

Millett was stripped of the IBF crown when he could not make a mandatory defense of his title due to an injury to his hand following a fight against Virgil McLendon on July 24, 1999. Judah then won the vacant title by defeating Jan Bergman on February 12, 2000 at Mohegan Sun.

Lazcano (24-1-1, 17 KOs), of Sacramento, California fought: Jesse ``James'' Leija (40-5-2, 16 KOs), of San Antonio, Texas to a split-decision draw.

The young Lazcano, who looked stiff in this hard-fought match, tried to steal rounds in the last ten seconds with solid right hands to the head of Leija. The veteran would then counter with crisp combinations prior to the bell.

Judge William Hutt of West Hartford, Connecticut had the fight 96-94 in favor of Leija, while Judge Fred Ucci of Yorktown Heights, New York scored the bout 96-94 in favor of Lazcano, and Judge Stephen Weisfeld had it 97-93 also in favor of Lazcano.
