Ireland Won't Ban Jockey Phone Use22 September 2003IRELAND – As reported by Ananova: "The Irish Turf Club have no plans to follow Britain by restricting the use of mobile phones to jockeys during race meetings. "Although revealing that discussions on the subject that has caused such controversy in Britain had taken place, the Turf Club believe they have no cause to take action. "`We have decided against the banning of such phones as we are not aware of any instances where the phones have been used to compromise the integrity of racing,' Irish Turf Club's senior steward Ray Rooney said at a media briefing in Dublin today. "…`We fully understand the predicament which the Jockey Club found themselves in where it was clearly stated in court that mobile phones were being used for such purposes and in our view they had to take action in some shape or form.'…" |
