Iowa Lottery Ticket Sales Up28 January 2002IOWA – Jan. 28, 2002 –As reported by the Des Moines Register: "Ticket sales for the Iowa Lottery totaled $89.1 million over the past six months, up nearly 9 percent, thanks to a boost from a giant Powerball jackpot last August. "Powerball sales increased $10 million. If that hadn't happened, lottery revenues would have fallen by about 4 percent compared with a year earlier, state records show. Sales of several other lottery games were either flat or declined from July through December 2001. "Lottery spokeswoman Mary Neubauer said sales for the multistate Powerball game were busy in the weeks leading to a $295 million drawing on Aug. 25. Iowa Lottery players snapped up nearly $11.7 million in tickets during that final sales week, which was a record, she said. "…Among other Iowa Lottery games, one of the most significant downturns involved instant ticket sales, which totaled $37.1 million between July and December 2001, down $2.5 million from the previous year. Lottery officials said they couldn't offer as many games for several months after switching computer systems in July…" |
