Iowa Breeding Makes Great Strides26 August 2002IOWA – As reported by the Des Moines Register: "Success in racehorse breeding, like the sport that drives it, hinges on a gambler's intuition, luck and sound handicapping. So when Jim McCoy went looking for a home for his new stud ranch more than a year ago, the Kansas businessman weighed different states' track records and went with a safe bet: Illinois. It was a million-dollar wager, one McCoy wishes he could have made differently. `I would have loved to come to Iowa,' said the Kansas City horseman, who instead chose 40 acres in Woodstock, northwest of Chicago. `But to invest the kind of dollars I'm talking, it just wasn't prudent.'
