Intertops.com Announces Odds on TV Ratings War25 February 2002ST. JOHN'S, Antigua – (Press Release) -- The show that spurred a cultural phenomenon returns to the airwaves this week when the hit CBS reality series Survivor: Marquesas debuts. As the first established bookmaker to offer betting options on the previous Survivors, Intertops.com has again created a host of odds on the newest installment of the successful reality show. Noting declining ratings of the last installment of the reality series, Intertops.com has created a unique betting option pitting the new edition of Survivor versus the most popular show on television. Customers may wager on whether the premiere episode of Survivor: Marquesas or the highly anticipated episode of the NBC sitcom Friends will score higher in the ratings for Thursday, February 28th. Currently, Friends is a 1/3 favorite to win the television ratings battle while the debut of the new Survivor is a slight underdog at 2/1 odds. ``Since becoming the first sports book to accept bets on the original Survivor, we have offered odds on all things imaginable for the millions of fans of the show - the ratings bet offer being the newest addition,'' said Simon Noble, CEO and co-founder of Intertops.com. ``Survivor was the first show that turned people on to reality television and gained unparalleled success in the process. When the show was moved into the highly competitive primetime Thursday night spot, it lost some momentum, and now has an uphill battle to surpass Friends in the ratings.'' In addition, Intertops.com has produced individual odds for all sixteen competitors on who will emerge as the $1 million grand prize winner of the new series. Currently Sean, the 30-year-old teacher, is the early favorite to outlast the other contestants at 5/1 odds (i.e., win $5 for every $1 bet). Intertops.com also feels that John, a registered nurse and former US Air Force medic (6/1), Kathy, a real estate agent from Burlington, Vermont (6/1), and Gina, a naturalist at a nature center (7/1), have the skills it takes to survive the elements and outwit the other contestants. Other contestants that Intertops.com feels could walk away $1 million richer, include Tammy, the crime reporter (8/1), Vecepia, an office manager for a software development company (8/1), Rob, the 26-year-old construction site foreman, and Sarah, an account manager for a clothing company who seems to emerge as the bikini babe of the tribe. Individual odds for all of the remaining castaways can be found at Intertops Customers may also wager on if they believe the winner will emerge from the Maraamu or Rotu tribe, at 37/50 and 19/20, respectively. Additionally, Intertops.com has created betting options on the gender of the winner of Survivor: Marquesas and lists the likelihood of a male emerging as the victor at 10/13, a slight favorite over a woman winning (10/11). All current odds are subject to change. |
