Indianapolis 500 odds up at William Hill

27 May 2021

(PRESS RELEASE) -- It’s a loaded sports calendar for all of Memorial Day Weekend, including the 2021 Indianapolis 500. “The Greatest Spectacle in Racing” is back in its usual spot on the Sunday before Memorial Day.

William Hill has futures up for all 33 drivers competing at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, with 500 miles and 200 laps separating each of them from history.

Takuma Soto won his second Indy 500 last August after it was delayed due to COVID-19. Yet, it’s a driver who hasn’t won the storied race since 2008 who is currently atop the board at William Hill.

When William Hill Nevada first released the 2021 Indianapolis 500 odds on April 18, Scott Dixon and Alexander Rossi were the +600 co-favorites, followed by Josef Newgarden, Simon Pagenaud and Will Power at +800.

Now Dixon leads the way at +400, with a few drivers who have experienced notable odds shifts the closest behind. Colton Herta opened at 15/1 and presently has the second-lowest odds at +700. Pato O’Ward is next at +750 after first being listed at 20/1. Alex Palou’s original price was also 20/1, and he’s since gone to 10/1.

Rossi is tied for the fifth-lowest odds at 12/1 with Newgarden. Meanwhile, the biggest odds shift belongs to Tony Kanaan, who went from 60/1 all the way to 14/1. Sato resides at 17/1 along with Rinus VeeKay, whereas Pagenaud and Power are at 22/1 each.

Dixon is also tops in total dollars wagered (12%) among all 2021 Indianapolis 500 futures bets taken at William Hill. That is highlighted by one Nevada bettor who staked $1,000 on Dixon at +600 for a total potential payout of $7,000.

Rossi and Graham Rahal (20/1) have each captured 8% of the total dollars wagered, whereas O’Ward, Kanaan, Herta, VeeKay and Helio Castroneves (30/1) are all at 5%.

In terms of total number of tickets, Dixon, Rossi, Castroneves and Marco Andretti (40/1) have each collected 6% in that category. Castroneves is the only driver in this field to have won the Indy 500 three times, while Sato and Juan Pablo Montoya (28/1) have notched two first-place finishes apiece. Castroneves is one shy of tying the record for most Indy 500 victories by any driver.

William Hill Nevada is also offering 10 head-to-head matchups for the race, including Dixon (-160) vs. Herta (+140) and O’Ward (-130) vs. Palou (+110).
