21 May 2002

INDIANA – As reported by the Cincinnati Enquirer: "Fewer people lost less money on Indiana's five Ohio River gambling boats last month than in March. Numbers released Monday from the Indiana Gaming Commission show that the number of visitors and gross gaming revenues were down in April. "The Grand Victoria in Rising Sun saw revenues fall by $1.7 million from March to April, ending a two-month gain in revenues the casino had experienced after slipping in 2001.

"The casino was up about $400,000 over last April.

"The Belterra Casino and Resort in Florence, Ind., was down about $300,000 from March. But revenues were up $1.9 million from a year ago.

"Belterra is facing more than $1 million in fines and possible probation after complaints that the Ohio River casino arranged for prostitutes to entertain wealthy gamblers.

"…The three Southeast Indiana riverboats also experienced surges in admissions from April 2001. But there were thousands fewer visitors to the boats in April than in March…"
