Illinois Judge Allows Lawsuit on Casino Law20 May 2002ILLINOIS – As reported by the Chicago Tribune: "A Cook County judge ruled Friday that a taxpayer represented by the Better Government Association could file a lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of the state law that allows a riverboat casino in Rosemont. "An investment group seeking to open the casino in Lake County brought a similar lawsuit in 1999, the year the law was passed. "…On Friday, Cook County Judge Lester D. Foreman said he would be abusing his discretion if he did not permit the BGA case to be filed. State law requires that cases making public money claims on behalf of taxpayers be screened by a judge. "The lawsuit will not affect the Illinois Gaming Board hearing scheduled for Monday about possible wrongdoing by Emerald Casino officials who seek to put a casino in Rosemont…" |
