Illinois Governor Denies Stacking Gaming Board10 September 2002ILLINOIS – As reported by the Chicago Sun-Times: "Gov. Ryan on Monday angrily denied that he replaced a former federal prosecutor with Mayor Daley's chief fundraiser in the black community as chairman of the Illinois Gaming Board to deliver a riverboat casino license to Rosemont. "…Ryan bristled when asked whether he replaced Gregory Jones with developer Elzie Higginbottom as a "final favor" to Rosemont Mayor Donald Stephens. "…Jones was viewed as the No. 1 opponent of the now-blocked Emerald Casino. "He has been replaced by Higginbottom, a clout-heavy developer who has benefited from a string of lucrative City Hall deals since December 1994." |
