Hooligans' Banned from World Cup

UNITED KINGDOM – As reported by the BBC: "More than 1,000 alleged English football hooligans - described as hard-core by police - have been banned from attending the World Cup.

"The number is 10 times the amount who were barred from Euro 2000, say police.

"The targeted fans were told to surrender their passports by midnight on Thursday. They have been told not to expect them back until the end of the tournament.

"…Two Japanese immigration officers have been in the UK for the past seven days and the profiles of a further 200 potential troublemakers have been passed to them.

"…Bryan Drew, head of the Specialist Intelligence Branch of the National Criminal Intelligence Service (NCIS) said they had worked on getting the bans for the past two years with Japanese colleagues.

"…England fans heading for the World Cup in Japan have been warned about their behaviour.

"The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) says those who break the law may be arrested and detained for up to 27 days while the police investigate the case.

"This applies for even minor offences…"
