HEAT.NET College Gaming League Closes Second Season, Revs Up for Third

SAN FRANCISCO--(Press Release)--May 11, 2000-- HEAT.NET's Collegiate Internet Gaming League (www.HEATCIGL.net) closed its second season with a $10,000 cash college gaming championship and is gearing up for a third season that promises to be completely over the top.

University of Southern California students capped off HEATCIGL's yearlong gaming season with its white-knuckle victory over second-place students from Carnegie Mellon University in the College Gaming Championships on May 6, 2000. Captained by sophomore Mark Van Lommel, the team members, Gordon Luk, Eddie Huang, Matt Blitz and Joe Bako, took home a handsome trophy and the top prize of $5,000 in the single-day championship playoff that pitted two finalists against each other in winner-take-all finals competition.

HEATCIGL awarded prizes worth $30,000 to students throughout its second season. Other top prizes and winners included:

$5,000 Online Gaming College All-Stars Tournament - The West Coast Division walked off with $600 for each team member in this year's all-star tournament on HEAT.NET. West Coast Team members included Dave MacElhaney of University of Nebraska - Lincoln, Gordon Luk and Eddie Huang of University of Southern California and prizes totaled $5,000; and $5,000 ``Excellence in Gaming'' College Scholarship - Michael White, a sophomore at West Virginia University, was awarded the first-ever ``Excellence in Gaming'' College Scholarship this year for his outstanding play in HEAT.NET's college league. White will use the $5,000 stipend to continue his studies in Pre-Information Business Management.

HEAT CIGL Growing

HEAT CIGL signed on more than 3,400 students from colleges and universities in the United States and Canada during the 1999-2000 gaming season, bringing the total to more than 7,000 members since 1998. With more that 1,100 registered schools, HEATCIGL is the largest college gaming community in the world.

HEATCIGL is now planning for its third full season, which kicks off next fall.
