Haxton wins first Short Deck event on PokerGO11 September 2018(PRESS RELEASE) -- Isaac Haxton wins the first ever Short Deck event on PokerGO, defeating a field of 55 entries to put himself in second place on the overall Poker Masters Purple Jacket standings with 480 points behind only Brandon Adams who has 510 points after four events. The Poker Masters comprises of seven high-stakes tournaments ranging from $10,000 to $100,000, including a Pot Limit Omaha and Short Deck event. The player who accumulates the most points using the High Roller Leaderboard will be crowned Poker Masters Champion, taking home the Purple Jacket. “It would be very satisfying to win this whole thing, I have a track record of doing pretty well, but with a lot of second through fifth-place finishes. Actually winning something is very satisfying,” Haxton said after his win and the hopes of capturing the Purple Jacket at the end of this week. Haxton, who has nearly $20 million in career tournament earnings, started his third Poker Masters final table of the week as one of the shorter stacks but mounted an impressive comeback playing Short Deck for the very first time. The six-handed final table started out fast and furious with a three-way all in featuring Maurice Hawkins, Dominik Nitsche, and Ryan Tosoc. Hawkins saw his pocket kings hold up for a full triple up against the queen-ten of diamonds of Tosoc and Nitsche’s ten-nine off-suit. After a period of relative quiet, Nitsche, the start-of-day chip leader, exited in sixth place for $33,000. Nitsche ended up all in with jacks versus the tens of Isaac Haxton, who ended up making a straight in this big all in. Haxton grabbed the lead and extended it by sending Cary Katz to the rail in fifth place for $44,000. Katz busted out holding king-queen of hearts against Haxton’s ace-ten, collecting his third cash of the Poker Masters series and keeping him in contention for the Purple Jacket with 210 points and firmly within the Top 10. Then, one of the pre-tournament favorites, Andrew Robl, lost one of the biggest pots of the day versus Maurice Hawkins. Hawkins and Robl both made straights, but the former’s bigger straight gave him the chip lead. Robl busted shortly thereafter in fourth place for $55,000 when his ten-nine off suit found no help against Ryan Tosoc’s queen-jack. Depiste knowing out Robl, Tosoc was the next one to go in third place. The former World Poker Tour Five Diamond winner ran ace-ten into the ace-jack of Isaac Haxton and Tosoc was sent to the rail to collect a $77,000 payout. Haxton started the heads-up portion of the tournament by grabbing the chip lead, but Hawkins wasn’t going down without a fight. On the final hand, Hawkins moved all in with nine-seven of diamonds and Haxton quickly called with ace-queen. The board ran dry for Hawkins who, as well as Haxton, notched up the first Short Deck result of his poker career.
