Harrah's Opens Players Lake Charles Casino

7 December 2000

LAKE CHARLES, Louisiana--(Press Release) -- Dec. 7, 2000-- Harrah's Entertainment, Inc. (NYSE: HET), which has spent more than $41 million on capital improvements to Players Lake Charles Casino and has committed another $11 million to hotel renovations, celebrates today the property's grand opening under the Harrah's brand name.

Harrah's has owned the 60,000 square-foot casino since March, when the company completed its acquisition of Players International, Inc. for $425 million.

Harrah's Lake Charles features a newly refurbished Star Casino with 900 new slot machines, a new boarding area, a new themed table games area called the Celebrity Room and a new Asian restaurant - Cafe Bong Sen. The facility also introduces Lake Charles customers to Harrah's Total Rewards, the casino industry's most comprehensive player loyalty program offering cash, comps and tiered status on a national basis.

``We're excited to bring a world-class gaming facility to Lake Charles while further broadening our distribution network, which now stands at 21 casinos in 17 U.S. markets,'' said Harrah's Entertainment Chairman and CEO Phil Satre. ``Just two hours from Houston, Harrah's Lake Charles provides us with direct access to customers in the nation's 16th largest casino feeder market and complements our existing Louisiana properties in New Orleans and Shreveport.''

``Our customers can expect better facilities, improved gaming action, and a more enjoyable atmosphere when they walk through the doors on December 7,'' said John Payne, senior vice president and general manager of Harrah's Lake Charles.

``What's more, players who sign up for the Total Rewards program will be linked to 21 Harrah's, Rio and Showboat properties nationwide, so the comps they earn here can be redeemed at locations across the country, including Harrah's other Louisiana casinos and the company's properties in Las Vegas.''

Payne said each Lake Charles employee has undergone extensive training to ensure customers receive an unsurpassed level of service. ``The goal is not simply to be good,'' Payne said, ``but to be the best.''

Harrah's is launching a new advertising campaign in conjunction with the grand opening. Aptly titled ``There's a New Game in Town,'' the campaign is designed to draw attention to the distinct advantages of playing at Harrah's Lake Charles and participating in the Total Rewards program.

The grand opening ceremony, which will be held in front of the new boarding area to the casinos, will be attended by top Harrah's executives, auto racing legend A.J. Foyt and A.J.'s son Larry, who will drive next year for Harrah's in the NASCAR Busch Grand National Series. A.J. Foyt's Indy Racing League car, also sponsored by Harrah's, will be on-property.

Located on Interstate 10, Harrah's Lake Charles casino is a two-hour drive east of Houston and three hours west of New Orleans. The casino is open 24 hours a day and features 60,000 square feet of gaming space. There are more than 1,500 slot machines at the property, including many that are a part of the statewide MegaJackpot network.
