Harrah's Foundation contributes to Comic Relief 200620 November 2006LAS VEGAS, Nevada -- (PRESS RELEASE) -- Continuing its 15-month effort to assist the victims of last year's devastating Gulf Coast hurricanes, the Harrah's Foundation today pledged $250,000 to "Comic Relief 2006," the all-star comedy benefit for the residents of New Orleans. Scheduled for Saturday, November 18 at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas and Harrah's New Orleans, the event will feature dozens of the world's most prominent comedians and actors. Funds raised by Comic Relief 2006 -- which will be televised nationally on HBO and TBS -- will be devoted to assisting New Orleans families in rebuilding their homes and communities. "We are only too familiar with the utter destruction last year's storms left in their wake," said Tim Wilmott, chief operating officer of Harrah's Entertainment, Inc. (NYSE:HET) and chairman of the Harrah's Foundation. "Thousands of our colleagues were directly affected by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, and many lost everything they owned in the world. Since then we have dedicated ourselves to assisting our employees and our Gulf Coast neighbors in the long process of recovery. We're honored to host this all-star cast in their effort to raise much-needed funds for rebuilding, and proud to kick off fundraising with a $250,000 donation." Hurricanes Katrina and Rita closed four Harrah's-owned casinos, impacting more than 8,000 company employees. In the hours following Katrina's landfall Harrah's embarked on a comprehensive relief effort, raising more than $8 million for an employee relief fund administered by the Harrah's Foundation. Members of the public interested in donating to Comic Relief 2006 may do so by calling 1-800-528-1000, or by visiting Comic Relief's website, comicrelief.org.
