Harrah's Entertainment Recognized by Business Association9 March 2006LAS VEGAS -- (PRESS RELEASE) -- The Black Business Association of Memphis and the Mid-South presented Harrah's Entertainment, Inc. (NYSE:HET) with the 2005 Outstanding Business Purchasing Award during the 20th Annual Benny Awards Dinner in Memphis on Thursday, March 2. This prestigious award is given annually to a business for making significant contributions to the involvement, empowerment and enrichment of minority- and women-owned businesses in the area, with specific emphasis on the commitment to purchase goods and services from minority- and women-owned businesses. "The Black Business Association of Memphis is happy to honor the commitment of our partner, Harrah's Entertainment," said Roby S. Williams, president of the Black Business Association of Memphis. "Harrah's has for some time been a supporter of minority- and women-owned businesses. It is because of their continual commitment and their creative approach in initiating and developing programs involving minority- and women-owned businesses as suppliers and contractors that we value Harrah's as a business partner. Harrah's consistent practice of valuing diversity is what moves our community closer to being the 'One Memphis' that we all call home." The Black Business Association is the largest trade association of its kind in the mid-south region, which includes Tennessee, Mississippi and Arkansas. BBA members include self-employed professionals, entrepreneurs, churches, economic development organizations and corporations, all united behind a single goal of empowerment through entrepreneurship. For 32 years, the Black Business Association of Memphis, founded in 1974 as the American Black Merchants Association, has been building the capacity of minority businesses through networking, training, and mentoring opportunities as well as providing information on available resources for funding, joint ventures and other special opportunities. "We are deeply honored to be recognized by the Black Business Association," said Anthony Sanfilippo, president of Harrah's Central Division. "Harrah's is committed to having a positive impact in the communities in which we operate.
