Harrah's Entertainment Plans Record Corporate Satellite Simulcast10 December 2001LAS VEGAS, Nevada --(Press Release)--Dec. 10, 2001-- Harrah's Entertainment (NYSE:HET) made news a year ago when it brought customers at 16 of its properties together as part of the world's largest corporate satellite simulcast. Today, the company is finalizing plans to break its own record on Dec. 17, when it will join thousands of its customers at 20 of its casinos around the country via a real-time video extravaganza. Harrah's will produce the live show beginning at 5 p.m. (PST). The program will be culled from a record 20 ``hot screens'' - all with the ability to broadcast live - at participating casinos. Each of these screens will be up-linked and connected to Harrah's Las Vegas, where entertainer Clint Holmes will host the simulcast. The broadcast is being coordinated by Convergent Media Systems, which is responsible for arranging the 20 live satellite uplinks, talent, camera persons and production crew the event requires. The simulcast is being held in conjunction with Harrah's national Total Rewards Giveaway promotion. Harrah's Total Rewards program is the largest loyalty card program in the casino industry, spanning three casino brands and boasting more than 24 million members. During this year's simulcast, designed to bring together thousands of Total Rewards members from across the country, one grand prizewinner will receive $100,000; secondary cash prizes totaling more than $50,000 also will be awarded. A total of nearly $200,000 will be given away during the broadcast. A total of 112 randomly selected finalists will have a chance to win the top prize. Five finalists will be chosen at each participating property to represent the first 100 finalists. The remaining 12 finalists will be selected from four ``teams'' - groups of players representing multiple casinos. ``We're thrilled to build on the magnitude of last year's event and set another record for the largest corporate satellite simulcast,'' said Rich Mirman, senior vice president of marketing for Harrah's Entertainment. ``This event is not only an innovative way to bring our customers together and reinforce our brand but also to promote business growth. We expect to generate record revenues at multiple properties on what is historically one of the slowest gaming weekends of the year.'' Founded more than 60 years ago, Harrah's Entertainment, Inc. is the most recognized and respected name in the casino-entertainment industry, operating 25 casinos in the United States, primarily under the Harrah's brand name. With a combined database of more than 24 million players, Harrah's Entertainment is focused on building loyalty and value with its target customers through a unique combination of great service, excellent products, unsurpassed distribution, operational excellence and technology leadership. |
