GTECH Launches First Online Lotto Game in Colombia

The sale of online lotto tickets began on January 17, 2001, with the first lottery draw expected to take place on January 27, 2001.

"The start-up of the online lotto game in Colombia represents a successful conclusion to a long and complicated negotiation that was impacted by a reorganization of the lottery authority in Colombia," said GTECH chairman W. Bruce Turner. "We are confident that the online lotto game will become a reliable source of revenue for good causes in Colombia for many years to come."

GTECH previously announced it had signed the contract with ECOSALUD in December 1999, however, as also announced, the scheduled start-up date was delayed due to several unforeseen political, legal, and administrative factors encountered by ECOSALUD.

Under the terms of the ten-year facilities management contract, which may be extended by ECOSALUD for an additional five years, GTECH has installed and will maintain a secure online lottery network including central system hardware, software, and up to 5,000 Isys(TM) terminals. The Company will provide the communications network, using the Company's proprietary, secure radio communications technology.

GTECH will also offer a variety of services including software support, operations management, communications management, and marketing services. GTECH will operate the Lottery from a data center and administrative office in Bogota, with regional offices initially in Cali, Medellin, and Barranquilla. Proceeds generated by the Lottery will be allocated to Colombia's health sector.
