Ground-Breaking Research Opportunity for Female Internet Gamblers

5 July 2005

by Casino City Staff

John F. Kennedy University Clinical Psychology doctoral student Mary Dinerman is undertaking critical new research on female gamblers' beliefs, attitudes, and feelings around gambling.

Research on gambling has primarily focused on men with scant attention paid to female gamblers. Studies that have been conducted have included few women, yet conclusions have been generalized to all women gamblers. In the small number of studies that included men and women, gender related findings had not been reported. Moreover, research on Internet gambling is practically nonexistent.

Dinerman is urgently looking to talk to female gamblers between the ages of 25-65 years of age, who self-identify as problem gamblers, and who are currently participating in Internet gambling or those who have participated in Internet gambling within the past year. She hopes her study will contribute to a better understanding of how the Internet influences women's gambling behavior and how attitudes and beliefs around gambling contribute to the decision to gamble on the Internet.

Participants will complete a short survey and answer interview questions about their experiences gambling on the Internet. The interview will take approximately 1 ½ hours and will be conducted on the phone or in person. All information provided is confidential.

To learn more about this study or to express an interest in participating, please contact Mary at: casinodino@aol.com or (925) 939-7610.
