Greektown Casino Presents 'Superstars of the 60s' Rock Show

22 March 2001

DETROIT, Michigan –(Press Release) --March 22, 2001-- Greektown Casino presents the ``Superstars of the 60s'' rock and roll legends including Mitch Ryder & The Detroit Wheels, the Grass Roots starring Rob Grill, The Box Tops, and Gary Puckett, at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, April 19 at The Music Hall in Detroit.

Hailing from the Motor City, Mitch Ryder & The Detroit Wheels served as the musical bridge between the Motown soul factory and the high-energy rock 'n' roll that would roar out of Detroit from Iggy & The Stooges, the MC5, Ted Nugent and Bob Seger.

The Grass Roots spent 307 weeks on the Billboard charts from 1967 to 1972 and hold the all-time attendance record for a one-act U.S. concert -- 600,000 people on July 4, 1982 in Washington, D.C.

The Box Tops added another link in the Memphis soul chain, mixing blues, Beatlesque pop, and the sound of Stax, HI and Goldwax. Their music remains a staple on the oldies stations and has retained its vitality for over two decades.

Gary Puckett and the Union Gap was one of the most successful musical groups of the 1960s. Puckett's unmistakable signature voice garnered six consecutive gold records.

Greektown Casino is conveniently located at 555 E. Lafayette, a short walk from the concert and a direct exit off I-375. Greektown Casino offers free parking for up to six hours in 3,400 valet and self-park spots during the day and 4,050 spots at night. Free valet parking is available beneath our main entrance porte-cochere.

More than 1,600 terrific hotel rooms are within quick access of Greektown Casino, including the Atheneum Suite Hotel & Conference Center and the nearby Marriott Courtyard Downtown Detroit and Marriott Renaissance Center hotels. Concert goers and Greektown Casino guests can also experience about two dozen restaurants, pubs, confectioneries and other shops in the Greektown neighborhood and nearby Harmonie Park. Greektown is also a short walk from Comerica Park, home of the Detroit Tigers, and Detroit's Fox Town theater district.
