Great Canadian Gaming Gets Final Approval for New Casino

RICHMOND, British Columbia – As reported by the Vancouver Sun: "Great Canadian Gaming Ltd. has been cleared to build a 300,000 square foot casino complex in Richmond and plans to start operations at the former Bridgepoint market site by March 2004.

"Richmond city council this week approved twin bylaws allowing casino use on the riverside site where Great Canadian plans to combine gaming operations with marina, show lounge, hotel and restaurant services.

"`It was one huge challenge putting this thing together and you had to have vision and patience and foresight and now we are going at it full throttle,' said company president Michael Scholz.

"…Scholz said up to about 300 slot machines will be included at the new facility.

"…A second bylaw passed in tandem this week effectively limits the city to just one casino, meaning that Great Canadian must close its existing facility in the city in order to open the riverside complex…"
