Grand Victoria Casino Brings Holiday Cheer2 December 2002ELGIN, Illinois – (Press Release) -- Today the Grand Victoria Casino kicks off the eighth annual Elgin Community Holiday Toy Giveaway at the Grand Victoria Pavilion. The event is being sponsored by the Grand Victoria Casino and the Grand Victoria Foundation, along with co-sponsors The Community Crisis Center, The Courier News, WJKL/WRMN Radio, the Elgin Fire Department, the Elgin Junior Woman's Club, the Elgin ROPE Officers, the Fox Valley Kiwanis Club, the Golden K-Kiwanis Club. "Each year this tradition becomes a more established part of the holidays in Elgin," said Randall Roberts, General Manager of the Grand Victoria. "We are proud to have so many valuable facets of the community working with us." As in previous years, the 2002 Holiday Toy Giveaway asks local residents to donate new, unwrapped toys to Elgin-area families with financial need. The Grand Victoria Foundation will match $1 for each unwrapped toy placed under the tree in the Grand Victoria Pavilion. A new element to this year's Toy Giveaway asks Elgin residents to donate non-material gifts as well as the material gifts of toys. Throughout the Toy Giveaway, the Grand Victoria is asking that donors and patrons share their wishes for the coming year. Decorative slips of paper will be available for donors to write down a wish for the holidays and 2003 to share with the toys' recipients. The holiday wishes will be distributed along with the toys to Elgin area children. Last year, approximately 2,000 children and over 750 families were served by the Toy Giveaway, and coordinators hope to exceed that level this year. "Sharing our wishes for the holidays and the coming year makes the Toy Giveaway about more than just toys. We hope everyone who donates a toy will also take a minute to write down a thought or a wish for the child who will receive that toy," said Sally Hoffman of the Community Crisis Center. Unwrapped toys for donation can be dropped off at the Grand Victoria Casino Pavilion from December 2 to December 16, 2002. Toys will be picked up from the Pavilion on December 16 and taken to Hemmens Auditorium for distribution to the community on December 17. Families who need gifts for their children can contact the Community Crisis Center at (847) 697-2380. |
