Grand Casinos & Jack Nicklaus Work on Links14 February 1997GULFPORT & BILOXI, Miss. -- Grand Casinos has entered into an agreement with one of golf's premier course designers, Jack Nicklaus, for the design and development of an 18-hole championship golf course on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. The course will be part of a major sports complex situated on a 1,750-acre site in Harrison County. The complex will be a shared access facility to service guests of both Grand Casino Gulfport and Grand Casino Biloxi. Commenting on his approach to designing the course, Jack Nicklaus said, "I believe that the surrounding environment helps determine the overall character of the golf course; therefore, the two have to work well together. When I first look at designing a hole, I consider what Mother Nature has already created on the property and then I try to make a golf hole that fits naturally with what is there. I don't believe in forcing an idea on a piece of land, but rather, I blend my ideas with the natural environment and let it help me shape the design of each hole. I guess you could say that Mother Nature is a co-designer of each of my courses." |
