Good Weather Aids Casino Construction16 January 2006OELRICHS, South Dakota – As reported by the Rapid City Journal: "The recent balmy weather has helped construction crews compensate for delays in the Oglala Sioux Tribe's casino expansion project on Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. "With recent temperatures hovering in the low to mid-50s, crews of Peska Construction Co. of Sioux Falls continued to place the steelwork for the new 45,000-square-feet Prairie Wind Casino. "Walt Big Crow, Wakpamni District council representative, said the construction project was behind schedule by about 30 days. But wintry weather that might have shut down work this month has stayed mild enough for crews to stay at work. "…Funded by a $38 million loan from the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community of Prior Lake, Minn., the tribe broke ground on its $20 million expansion project last August. Casino profits will repay its share of the tribe's Minnesota loan, Big Crow said. "The tribe expects to open the doors to the new Prairie Wind Casino by August…" |
