Golf Event Raises $65,000

10 July 2002

LAS VEGAS -- A fourth annual golf fundraiser sponsored by the JCM American Corp. and the American Gaming Association raised a record $65,000 for the National Center for Responsible Gaming.

The proceeds will be used to support research and education on problem gambling.

The golf tournament, held in May at the Revere at Anthem golf course in Henderson, featured 29 corporate sponsors and 148 players from the casino industry and related suppliers.

Las Vegas-based JCM American Corp. makes bill validating equipment for the casino industry. The AGA is the chief lobbying organization for the commercial casino industry.

The National Center for Responsible Gaming was established in 1996 by casino executives to study problem gambling through research and education. The NCRG has given $3.7 million in research grants to more than 20 institutions and awarded a $2.4 million contract to Harvard Medical School's Division on Addictions in 2000 to establish the Institute for Research on Pathological Gambling and Related Disorders. The casino industry has so far contributed $7.4 million to the group.
