Georgia Sued Over Video Poker20 November 2001GEORGIA – Nov. 20, 2001 –As reported by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution: "A group of owners and operators of video poker machines filed a lawsuit Monday seeking to strike down a law that will ban the highly profitable business beginning Jan. 1. "In the lawsuit, filed in U.S. District Court in Rome, they contend that they have invested substantial sums of money in the coin-operated games and the state cannot order their removal without compensation. "…This amounts to an unconstitutional taking of property, the lawsuit says. It adds that the new law has no provision for compensation, as required under both the state and U.S. constitutions." |
