gambling ship on alcohol-free waters4 July 2001Passengers on Texas gambling ship, the Surfside Princess, are not only allowed to gamble before they reach international waters, but they won’t be allowed to drink alcohol either. Although the boat sets sail this Friday on her maiden launch, her owner, Southern Texas Gaming, has not received their liquor license yet. However, the company is not to concerned. Said Jerry Bass, a general manager for Southern Texas Gaming, “I think they just want to gamble.” Since the company charges an admission fee to board the boat, alcoholic beverages cannot be given away while the ship is in State waters but if the ship allows it, public customers could bring their own alcohol, as long as the ship does not have its own liquor license. Investors hope that the ship, which holds 1700 people, will attract gamblers who currently play at Louisiana casinos. |
