Gambling on South Carolina Waters Banned

COLUMBIA, South Carolina -- As reported by the Associated Press: ``All boats with video gambling machines located in South Carolina rivers will be subject to state laws banning gaming, according to the state attorney general.

``Based on a revised state Supreme Court ruling about gambling on `day cruises to nowhere,' Attorney General Charlie Condon said the state's gambling laws will be enforced immediately on boats in South Carolina's waterways.

``State Law Enforcement Division agents Friday evening shut down one gambling boat in Conway on the Waccamaw River and a second boat in Moncks Corner had already stopped operating, SLED Chief Robert Stewart said.

``...In the revision of its opinion in the Stardancer Casino Inc. case, the court clarified a ruling that some interpreted as only banning gambling on fixed structures and allowing games of chance on a boat docked at a lake..."
