Gambling Machines Save William Hill From Sport

LONDON – As reported by Reuters: "Gambling machines have helped offset a string of unfavourable sporting results at Britain's second-biggest betting shop chain William Hill, the group says.

"The company, which runs around 1,600 betting shops and offers telephone and online gambling, said on Monday its second-half results had been hit by poor soccer results and 'less favourable' horse racing results.

"'The growth of random number generated events as a proportion of overall betting opportunities has increased the group's revenue resilience in periods of less good sporting events,' it said in a trading update for the 52 weeks to Dec 28.

"'Roughly a third of the group's gross win is now derived from 5,500 fixed odds betting terminals in the retail estate, online casino, poker and arcade sites," it added…"
